Popsicle Place - a safe haven for unsheltered families with critically-ill children

Keola needed medical care. His family needed shelter. Mary’s Place helped with both.

Popsicle Place supports families who have lost everything, including their homes, managing the care of their critically-ill child. Families are living in their cars outside of hospitals while their child awaits outpatient care of chemo, dialysis, or surgeries. At Popsicle Place, families can come inside to their own private room, access the Mary’s Place health care clinic and team, a private lounge for children with compromised immune systems and a refrigerator to store medicines and special foods, and access Mary’s Place housing and employment resources and services.

“We both had good jobs at one point, but slowly but surely things kept stacking up against us.” “It’s taken us a long time to get our heads back above water, Mary’s Place and Popsicle Place have helped us to do that”.

Thank you to the team at Zillow for this video about the Benson’s family’s stay at Popsicle Place. Since filming in October, the Benson’s have found housing!
