25 years of bringing women and families inside

As Mary’s Place commemorates 25 years of community, service, and love, we’re grateful for the many hands, hearts, and minds that have made it possible for us to bring thousands of unsheltered women and families inside.

This week, Mary’s Place staff and guests are celebrating our mission and history in shelter, sharing cupcakes, special memories, stories, and time together. We also invite our community to take a look back with us through the Mary’s Place History Project, which includes an interactive digital timeline with interviews that capture the evolution and defining moments of the organization from its humble roots at The Church of Mary Magdalene to the opening of its first permanent shelter in Burien. Along the way, you’ll hear from volunteers, current and former staff, community leaders, and guests about the compassion that continues to serve as the foundation of our mission. In listening to the stories of a diverse and talented tapestry of people who helped shape Mary’s Place over the past 25 years, there are resounding messages of dignity, agility, tenacity, and partnership – qualities that have become the hallmark of how Mary's Place does its work.

“Mary’s Place would not be where it is today without the love and dedication of this community,” said Chief Executive Officer Dominique Alex. “We hope you’ll take some time to look through the collection of moments that have made Mary’s Place special and share a message, a memory, or a story with us to enrich our knowledge of the many ways Mary’s Place has touched lives.”
